Wet, wet, very wet! Dragons V the Bonymaen 2!

Thank you to all the parents who made the trip to Bonymaen today. The weather was very wet and windy. We knew in advance that Bonymaen were a bit short on numbers but I expected more than 2 players! We split the Dragons and had a good game of rugby. The boys did really well with their defensive play. Tag lines were held which made attacking really difficult for the opposition. Great play boys in difficult conditions. Well done. Mark.

Dragons V Loughor

The Dragons played really well against Loughor on Sunday. They had so many players they could field 2 sides! Our plucky hero's played 30 minutes of rugby. There are some skills that we can work on during training which should make a big difference but the Dragons managed to stop Loghor from scoring try's and gain possession of the ball. Well done boys. Mark.

Farewell to Shane Williams

Shane Williams, a Welsh rugby legend, has retired from international and Ospreys rugby. Will one of our Dragons replace him! That's what the WRU hope. Tag rugby is designed to be fun and equip kids with the skills to succeed. Just remember to keep two hands on the ball when you score a try Dragons!

Dragons V Dunvant. 9 September.

Dragons you were fantastic! Nigel and I are really proud of how you played today. Everyone of the players had a great game. Most importantly, you looked like you were really enjoying it. That's what Tag Rugby is all about. Well done boys! I am sorry there are no photos of the game; I left the camera on the wrong setting after taking some pictures of dragonflies! Thank you for your support at the Rugby club after the game. We hope to see you on Thursday for our first training session. Mark.

Sunday, 2 September 2012

It was great to see all the Dragons back together after the summer break. The boys played really well against a superior Morriston side. There were some some really good runs, tags and tries.
There are elements of the our game that we need to improve. We need to get better at forming lines for attack and defence. We ran into touch on a couple of occasions and possession was lost with poor passing. We can work on all of these in our training sessions. We are going to start mid week training. Training will be on Thursday evenings in Underhill Park, Mumbles. We will train between 18:30 and 19:30. Underhill is our ground so there is no cost to us as a team. Although basic there are chaining rooms and flood lights. In the winter we will switch too an indoor venue. Training starts on 13 September. Our next game is against Dunvant at home (Bishopston). Mark.

Pitchside Party

Well that's it; another season has passed. We finished on a high with a party at Pitchside. I felt really smug when I woke up and heard the rain lashing against the window. It was nice to know we were heading inside. The Dragons decided to play a little rugby then play football. Brothers and sisters joined in and I think all had a good time. Isotonic hot dogs, slush puppies and rugby cupcakes were consumed by the Dragons after the game. Food for athletes! Please keep an eye on the blog for details of next seasons games. Thank you for your support. Hope you little Dragon enjoyed the rugby. Mark and Nigel.

Sunday 29. End of Season Party at Pitchside. 10:50am

The weather is awful so a BBQ is not a good idea. We would like to finish our season with a bit of fun so we have hired Pitchside in Swansea. This is an indoor artificial grass court. We have hired this between 11am and 12:00. Please arrive by 10:50. We plan to play rugby and football with the kids. After the fun we will provide hotdogs and drinks for the Dragons at the venue. If you are feeling adventurous please feel free to join in with us. Brothers and sisters are welcome as well. Both you, and the Dragons, will need trainers. I would like the Dragons to wear our jerseys but they may want their favourite football top as well! PLEASE RESPOND TO THE TEAMER MESSAGE SO I KNOW HOW MUCH FOOD AND DRINK TO ORDER. See you on Sunday! Mark.

Training 15 April 2012

We had a really good training session last week. We did some fun warm up exercises and sprints to start but I think someone had a false start if you look at the photos! After a quick game of 'huggy bears' (note to some players this is not called kissy bears!) we split the group into two. The dads ran an exercise to help the Dragons with their tagging and evasion skills. Nigel and I worked on tagging skills. Finally we had a game of tag rugby where we worked on defence and keeping a tag line. The it was back to the rugby club for some isotonic hot dogs and lemonade! Thank you all for your help. Mark.

Easter Sunday Training.

I really enjoyed our training session today; I think the Dragons did as well!

Our session was focused on our defensive play. We played bulldog with some very big and mean looking defence (Thank you dads!). We then did some drills to work on tagging and evasion. Check out the photo of Rhydian twisting his hips to avoid being tagged. We finished with tag rugby.

Well done Dragons you were great today.

See you next week,

Mark.
